Frequently Asked Questions

Below are a few of the questions we are most commonly asked. If you have a question please take the time to read them before emailing us.

What does dB Sound do?

dB Sound (NSW) Pty Ltd is an Australian owned company that began as a professional audio hire company in the 1980’s, and quickly developed to handle sales and service work as well. During the next few years the company also began designing and developing various projects that related to the work we were involved with. In 1995 the company also began doing lighting to compliment the audio production work that had evolved to be a major component of the company’s life. By 1997 the company had also begun providing video and A/V services in both the hire and installation divisions.

At the beginning of 2000 the decision was made to pull back from the installation of audio, A/V and associated equipment to allow the company time to better develop the hire division and to direct efforts to manufacturing. This would allow many of the fairly limited edition products that have been produced in the past to become off-the shelf products, serving to provide the industry with equipment that either was previously not available or only at prohibitive cost for most consumers. From about 2010 we could see poor quality installation work everywhere so began installing again. This has since become a key sector of the business.

Do you deal in stereo equipment?

Short answer, no. Hi Fidelity equipment is very different to professional and commercial equipment. There are industry based rules regarding the handling of most Hi Fi products that restrict the access to products. Hi Fi dealers rely on selling Hi Fi equipment to make a living. They also do not have the experience to sell our kind of equipment. We rely on selling professional and commercial equipment to make a living so naturally we would not want Hi Fi people doing us out of a sale would we? We do have access to some cross-over products such tuners, CD players etc, for use in installed systems and our hire fleet and we can arrange for the repair of this equipment but we don’t do it ourselves for many of the reasons stated.

What is the difference between “Professional” and “Commercial” equipment that you refer to?

Professional equipment is gear such as is found on stage for a show, be that a theatre, auditorium or a church. Microphones are usually many hundreds of dollars each, the amplifiers are chosen for their utmost reliability and all of the processing is usually of studio or broadcast quality.

Commercial equipment is usually found in schools, factories or shopping centres and the like. It refers to ceiling or horn speakers, desk-top paging mics, amplifiers that can run on batteries in an emergency. The emphasis here is on rugged design rather than premium sonic performance.

The two areas do often overlap such as in a club where they have paging and background music as well as entertainment systems. A school will have a professional system in their hall and a commercial system running the bells and messages. A great number of installers, technicians and sales staff are only skilled in one or other area. dB Sound (NSW) Pty Ltd is qualified in both areas.

Where is dB Sound located?

dB Sound is situated in Bathurst NSW, around 200km west of Sydney. This puts us at the door of the central west plains but still within reach of our Sydney clients. The street and postal address is 32 Beresford Street, Bathurst, NSW 2795. Contact us by phone on 6331 2939 or 1800 638 777.

When can you find us at work?

Because of the nature of the entertainment industry, we work wide and varied hours. Our office is open to serve your routine needs between 8:00am and 4:30pm, Monday to Friday. Outside these hours we can arrange to serve your needs as long as you arrange it a few days before. Additional costs may apply depending on the requirements.

My Equipment does not work, will you come and fix it?

If you have equipment that was not purchased from us, we will carry out field service work, provided we are familiar with the make and model. If we feel that it is not in our or your best interests to work on the equipment we would advise you of this and not charge you for the call out.

If you have equipment that was purchased from us, we will carry field service work for you. If a product has to be removed to be repaired we will provide a replacement item, if required at fifty percent of the list price, from our hire fleet, where ever possible.

If you have hired equipment from us and believe that there is a problem with it, we will come out, with replacement equipment where possible, and resolve the problem. This service is free unless we can demonstrate that it was an operator error or problem caused by lack of knowledge by the operator in which case prevailing fees do apply.

Does dB Sound (NSW) Pty Ltd have any unique services?

Yes, several. We have been deliberately selecting hire equipment that is different from our peers but at the same time compliments what they may offer. We have many microphones that are not available elsewhere. We have multicore systems that we feel work better and faster than some of the more expensive alternatives available elsewhere.

We offer a unique selection of speakers for hire or purchase. Almost all of our speakers have been developed by us and for our customer’s needs. Using only top class components, we have 12″ and 15″ foldback as well as 8″, 10″, 12″, 15″ & 18″ speakers for a wide variety of live applications.

When you buy from dB Sound, you get a minimum of a two year warranty, regardless of the period offered by the manufacturer or importer. Even if they only offer a one year warranty, we will honour their terms for a two year period. If their period is longer then you can be assured we will make sure you are being looked after for at least that period. – Before you buy anything elsewhere, check the warranty terms before you buy the “bargain” on offer.

The warranty on our installations is three years. If a socket becomes loose, a paging mic develops a crackle, just call and we’ll come out and take care of it.
